The Nature of Power

May 3rd, 2008 by leighamalta

By Anu Singh The nature of power is a much-misunderstood subject. One reason for misunderstanding is that there are two kinds of power-political and spiritual. Religious mythology takes pains to draw the distinction between the two. Prior to the birth of Buddha, for instance the soothsayers informed his father that Buddha would grow up to become the most powerful king in the land or else a poor man who would be the greatest spiritual leader the world had ever known. Either or, but not both. And Christ was offered by Satan all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them. But he rejected this alternative in favor of dying, seemingly important, upon the cross. The experience of spiritual power is basically a joyful one. There is a joy that comes with mastery. Indeed, there is no greater satisfaction than that of being an expert, of really knowing what we are doing. Those who have grown the most spiritually are those who are the experts in living. It is the joy of communion with God. For when we truly know what we are doing, we are participating in the omniscience of God. With total awareness of the nature of a situation, of our motives for acting upon it, and of the results and ramifications of our action, we have attained that level of awareness that we normally expect only of God. Our conscious self has succeeded in coming into alignment with mind of God. We know with God. Yet those who have attained this stage of spiritual growth, this stage of great awareness, are invariably possessed by joyful humility. It’s All In Your Mind - Love Must Still The Mind

May 1st, 2008 by leighamalta

By Christopher Walker MEME Summary of the Keynote presented to Gosford. What is a MEME? A meme is to the consciousness what a gene is to the physical body Genes are of the physical worldMemes are of the world of thought Memes are thoughts we think without thinking. A meme therefore lives in our subconscious and can define our behavior, reactions, actions, motives, tastes, preferences, inclinations, interests, decisions. But rarely to we identify them. Memes come from societal norms. Memes come from parents. For example incest happens in the children of incested women at nearly 4 times the prevalence than in those children of non incested mothers. This is not a gene it is a meme. WE have social norms. And these are memes because we hardly know that they can be questioned. In some religious societies people are punished severely for breaking or even questioning memes. As a change agent in human love, I must question those memes and therefore I get allot of resistance from people. Memes are often unquestioned. To do what you love in your life you must break memes. This is the key to it. Memes can sit in your subconscious and prevent you living the authentic life you know is possible. Here are some memes, that can prevent you from living your dreams. The meme that something always looks after us (universe or god or someone) The meme that our expectations are real and the world has a problem The meme that we are separate from nature The meme that support means love and challenge is not worthy of love The meme that you are, in some way, better off copying someone else. The meme that someone is happier than you The meme that there is a place where there is less challenge The meme that growth means more success and mental peace. Here are some new memes you might like to replace the above with; Nothing is wrong. There is only beauty in the world that I still havent been able to see. Love is support and challenge. There will never be an imbalance. Challenge is as much fun as support/ I cannot be right. Even my intuition is half wrong. My thoughts are half right. I can only do what I love. There is nothing to fix. It isnt broken. Everything is worthy of love. No matter. Anything we try to fix just proves our own judgments and causes more memes. There are no excuses There is no one to blame nobody does more to us than we do to ourselves. Appreciation builds deprecation destroys. People become as I treat them. Everything I want to change in somebody is something that I dont appreciate and therefore wanting to change people, depreciates them. We are everything we see. Just in different forms. The power is that what we judge we breed, what we judge we attract. What we appreciate is us. What we criticize is us. WE are the all. And this is how we expand, by seeing both sides. There is nothing to change. Depression is caused by elation (fantasy) Live with spirit Chris Walker Chris Walker is a world leading change agent, an environmentalist and author of more than 20 books. The Secret Formula For Fat Loss That No One Seems To Be Telling Women

April 28th, 2008 by leighamalta

By Heather Picken There are so many diet programs, books, and sites that will list so many different diets. For example: The South Beach Diet, Atkins Diet, Juice Fasting and you even see celebrity’spitching their diets. Now some of these might have some good aspects to them in the waythey give you good food choices but there’s so much more to it then that. Any diet can make you lose weight but how many can promise you and show you how to keep it off? We live in a world where the weight loss industry over promises but under delivers.90-95% of women who go on diets fail. Don’t feel bad that you can’t just seem to stick to a program the real reason you’re not able to get the results you want and to keep them is thatwhat you have been given is the wrong technology. So what is the right technology for women to achieve the body and health they desire? Well in my 10 years of researching and helping women achieve exactly that and maintain it, I have realized that there is a formula for ultimate fat loss success that no one seems to be talking about or knows how to do correctly to produce long-lasting results and without this piece of information you will be on the continuing quest for the next best diet out there as every week another one seems to come our way. The secret is the right information, in the right order, and the application of it is crucial in getting and maintaining your fat-loss goals. Don’t make the mistake of buying a program or system that doesn’t include this. The number one ingredient in this fat-loss success formula is to understandhow your mind works in the fat-loss process. Did you know you are either programmed to lose fat or gain fat and if you know the exact formula for fat-loss success then you can undo years of failed attempts of dieting and gaining it back and never being satisfied in the way you look. Think about it everything we do in life is a mental process and our habits and beliefs are shaped97-98% through our subconscious minds and only 2-4% are through are conscious minds. The secret is working in changing your subconscious mind in order to get the unwanted fat off.Part of the formula goes far beyond just positive thinking and goals setting. You need to believethat you can achieve it and you also need to create more positive chemicals in your brain. Each time you think a negative thought you elicit negative chemical and the same goes for positive thoughts. The average person thinks anywhere from 40,000-50,000 a day so if you’re thinking negative thoughts all day about how you don’t like your body then that is exactly what you will attract. You can actually re-train your mind to be on ‘auto-pilot’ so that the majority of your thoughts are positive and when you master that your actions will match as this is only a small part in training your subconscious mind to get the body you desire and keep it that way. Imagine never going back to your old habits and old ways! Once I implemented this in a system the results were incredible, taking women from hating exercise to loving it. You don’t have to suffer anymore “if you get your mind right the body will follow”, that was said byan unknown Olympic coach that realized that if you want to perform your best you need to work onyour mental muscles. What Most Marketing Gurus Don’t Teach You

April 26th, 2008 by leighamalta

By Debbie LaChusa If you’re not getting the results you want from your marketing, there’s a good chance it’s because you’re missing one key ingredient. An ingredient that can make the difference between successful marketing and dreadful marketing. The difference between your business making it or breaking it. You’re probably doing “tactical” marketing. So what exactly does that mean? Isn’t marketing, marketing? The answer is, no. There are two kinds of marketing: strategic marketing and tactical marketing. And, there is a distinct difference between the two. It’s what most marketing “gurus” don’t teach you As I look around, most of the “marketing gurus” I see are teaching tactical marketing. It’s not that that’s bad … it’s just that it’s only part of what you need to succeed. They’re teaching you how to write copy. How to publish an ezine. How to market your business by writing articles or by issuing press releases. How to market by teaching teleseminars or doing speaking engagements. Or even how to network effectively. Yes, these are all very valid ways to market your business. So, what’s the problem? Without a well-thought-out marketing strategy behind them, your chances of finding success with any or all of these marketing tactics is limited. So what exactly is strategic marketing? Just like it sounds, strategic marketing means you have a strategy behind your marketing. A “game plan” if you will. It’s what you do BEFORE you start marketing It involves spending some time BEFORE you market to determine exactly what you want to accomplish and setting some goals for your business. It means establishing an objective for every marketing activity you undertake. With strategic marketing you take the time to answer some basic questions about who you are marketing to and what message will be most effective. You take the time to really understand the people you are marketing to and how your product or service solves a problem or fills a need they have. You put all these puzzle pieces together to create a strategy and a plan to grow your business. Yes, that strategy may involve things like writing effective ad copy, publishing an ezine, article marketing, writing press releases, and maybe even doing some speaking or networking. But here’s the real difference … You now have a game plan driving your use of these marketing tactics. You know what you want to achieve. You know who you’re trying to reach. You know where you can find them. And you know what you must say to persuade them. And, most importantly, you have a marketing plan that ensures you’ll stick with your marketing consistently enough to actually move the needle toward your goals. Overfed Yet Undernourished

April 24th, 2008 by leighamalta

By Al Sears MD Americans jump from one diet trend to the next. But where has this obsession with healthy eating gotten us? Obesity continues to rise now affecting one in five Americans. And incredibly, over 60% of American adults are now overweight.1 Somehow, our diet obsession has turned us into the fattest people in history. Weve also seen an explosion of other diet-related problems. Here in my clinic, so many of my new patients just can’t figure out why theyre so tired. In todays Health Alert, well look at where weve gone wrong. Ill also give you a few tips for getting back to a more natural routine. Americans: Overfed but Undernourished Our tastes naturally guide us to food thats good for us. Unless our ancestors were starving, they didn’t eat grains because grains didn’t taste good. Without processing, grains are hard, gritty, tasteless and difficult to digest. A natural balance ensued. The grains escaped mammalian predation and we stuck to foods we are adapted to eat. In the recent low-carb trend, Americans got a little closer to the mark, but they still didn’t hit it. Not all carbohydrates are equal. Vegetables are a great source of carbs. They’re high in fiber, which slows the conversion of carbohydrates into glucose. That’s important because it also slows your body’s release of insulin. Fruits, nuts, and seeds are good as well. You can eat all these in their natural form and they are all good carbs. Grains, potatoes, and corn cant be eaten without processing or cooking and turn out to be problematic. They’re higher in starch and create huge amounts of blood sugar eventually leading to insulin overproduction, which only leads to weight gain. Lumping vegetables in with grains just because theyre both carbohydrates, ignores these critical differences and just doesn’t make nutritional sense. We also tend to focus on single foods, sometimes declaring them the path to true health. Take soy for example. Many will tell you that soy prevents heart disease and cancer, lowers cholesterol, and is an all around good thing to eat. But it just ain’t so Research links soy to decreased fertility, a higher risk of some cancers, and hormone imbalances. Still, the food industry grabbed hold of some promising study early on, some misleading tidbit of information, and created a booming market for soy. It’s now in 70% of processed foods.4 Revolutionize the Way You Think about Food Do you think more about what you like to eat or what you are supposed to avoid? One perspective leads to fulfillment and satisfaction. When you feel good about what youre eating, you naturally eat less. The other leads to guilt, regret and a propensity to eat more. First, think about whats good to eat: Eat more protein. Eggs from free-range chickens and grass-fed beef or bison are my favorites. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Eat more nuts and seeds. Enjoy a bit of chocolate now and again. A glass of wine most days won’t hurt either. Next, how to eat: Dont skip breakfast. Make dinner an event. Plan the meal. Invite the family. Set the mood. And enjoy each other’s company as much as you enjoy the meal. Chew. Slow down and savor the meal. Pause. Set your fork down between bites. Pay attention. When you feel comfortable and not hungry, decide to be done. Eating healthy is as simple as eating the foods you were built to eat. Having a healthy attitude toward food is as simple as enjoying the foods you eat, taking your time to taste them, and not worrying over the meal in front of you as you eat it. To Your Good Health, Al Sears, MD Dr. Al Sears is fast becoming the nation’s leading authority on longevity and heart health. Marriage is Between a Man and a Woman

April 22nd, 2008 by leighamalta

By Lance Winslow Lets face it if you have been around homosexuals most all straight people have all been called homophobic, which is utter non-sense mostly, I just love women. I am not homophobic. I have had slander put on the Internet about my personal character, using fake screen names, when I found myself inadvertently debating with homosexuals over the gay marriage issue. All sorts of things and that completely pisses me off, although I realize it is a small minority that is using these tactics, Nevertheless, if the Gay and Lesbian Community really wants to get their way and sooner rather than later it does not make a lot of sense to attack in such ways. The Gay and Lesbian Community will lose allies and friends and reduce their synergy if this continues to be the norm. Additionally I am owed an apology personally by some of these radical gay fringe terrorists. Every time I see a flagrant gay male between the ages of 17-28 all I can think of is; that person fits the profile of someone who is angry and vindictive, a social time bomb if you will, who knows what they are capable of when no one is watching? Willing to use all possible means ethical or not to get their way. Willing to say anything, or harm anyone who does not agree, spread hate or even do an unlawful deed or outright criminal act. I have seen it, do denial will not work and I am sure the G&L Community is well aware of this problematic group within the group and probably wants to disown them. This is pure observation and I have witnessed this many times and I assume others who have watched such behavior feel the same. Consider this and observe the gay fringe next time you are out and tell me if I am not right on the money about this. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Cuisine and Cooking

April 20th, 2008 by leighamalta

By David Russo The term “cuisine” has widespread implications, encompassing practices and traditions in cooking and the general preparation of food and beverages. These practices and traditions are usually specific to a certain geographic region and heavily influenced by the various ingredients available in that region as well as by it’s cultural mores (such as religion). The use of chopsticks in the Far East, for example, (itself done in keeping with Confucian teachings) necessitates that the food be cut into bite-size portions before serving. New technologies have also come into play in regional cuisine. New methods of production, preservation, transportation etc. coupled with the rise of intercultural interaction brought about by immigration and tourism has lifted many of the old restraints off of cuisine. “Ethnic” cuisine often depends upon the delivery of fresh ingredients from far-away lands and has only recently been made possible by faster and cheaper transportation as well as better preservation and other factors. The existence of foreign cuisines alongside local cuisines allows for the creation of new dishes through experimentation by chefs. Cuisine is, for all these reasons, culturally important in many ways and is often associated with oenology and gastronomy. Italian and French cuisine is much appreciated around the world for its variety and the quality of its products. Can Green Tea Help Treat Bacterial Infections?

April 19th, 2008 by leighamalta

By Jon Stout It seems that we are only just beginning to discover the power of green tea. Over the last few years, green tea has been linked with reducing the risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and rheumatoid arthritis. And, as time goes on, its likely that well find more and more uses for green tea. The magic bullet in green tea is its high level of anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants combat free radicals that are created in our bodies as we process food. The free radicals produced damage our cells and our DNA, and eventually lead to disease if we dont combat them. Anti-oxidants are our most important defense against the damage of free radicals. One of the most important anti-oxidants is epicatechin gallate (EGCG) As an anti-oxidant, EGCG is 25-100 times more potent than vitamins C and E. EGCG is one of the many catechins found in green tea, as well as in fruits and vegetables. They are anti-oxidants, bioflavonoids and polyphenols. All three of these substances are effective in improving our immune system, and preventing aging and disease. But, research is showing that, in addition to preventing disease, the powerful anti-oxidants in green tea may have an anti-bacterial effect, as well. This stands to reason, since we know that anti-oxidants boost our immune system. Researchers at Brigham & Womens Hospital in Boston found evidence that tea may keep the immune system prepared to fend off attacks from bacteria and other pathogens. The study looked at 11 healthy non-tea drinkers, who began drinking tea, and compared them with 10 healthy people who began drinking coffee. The researchers found that drinking 20 ounces of tea every day for at least two weeks doubled or tripled the immune systems output of an infection-fighting substance called interferon gamma. Apparently the body metabolizes the tea into molecules that mimic the surface proteins of the bacteria, jump-starting the immune system so that when real viruses show up, the bodys immune system begins acting more quickly. Okayama University in Japan found something even more interesting. Patients who were infected with a strain of Staphylococcus aureus (staph infection) that was particularly resistant to anti-biotics responded more favorably to their treatment when it was administered with the EGCG extract from green tea. The EGCG made the infection less able to fight against the anti-biotic. So, what does this mean to me? As with many other research findings, there are always more things that we need to examine. And, no doubt, more research will be conducted to more conclusively identify how green teas anti-oxidants can help our bodies stay healthy. It does seem likely, however, that the anti-oxidants contained in green tea are highly effective at improving your immune system, which may help prevent you from catching viruses. But, even more importantly, these anti-oxidants may help treat serious bacteria and infections even after youve contracted them. Doctors may be able to use this powerful information to help patients recover more easily and more quickly from serious infections. But, for sure, we know enough to conclude that we need to have a diet thats rich in anti-oxidants. Be sure that you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables every day. Then, wash it all down with green tea to help increase your anti-oxidant level even further. Be sure the tea you choose is green tea, too, rather than traditional black tea. Black tea is healthy, but not as healthy as green tea. All tea comes from the same plant, the Camellia sinensis; sister to the camellia bush that many people grow in the Southeast US. Black tea is fermented during processing, green tea is not. The fermenting that black tea undergoes changes the natural anti-oxidants into another state that is not as healthy as their original state. For this reason, green tea (and white tea, too) is your best source of anti-oxidants. How much do I need? In Asian cultures, where the consumption of green tea is very high and the incidence of many serious diseases is much lower than that of the US, many people drink as much as 8-10 cups of green tea each day. However, most doctors believe that you can gain health benefits from drinking just 8-10 ounces each day. One thing is for sure, any amount of green tea is increasing your level of anti-oxidants which is good for your health. They key seems to be drinking it consistently. Adding one cup of green tea to your diet every day for the rest of your life will be more effective than drinking a quart just occasionally. If youre not drinking green tea right now, adding it to your diet could be an effective way to improve your immune system over the short and long term. You may be able to more effectively fight off little viruses that come your way right now, and you may be able to prevent serious diseases later in life. Green tea is delicious and its good for you; so it makes good health sense to get your dose of green tea each and every day! Jon M. Stout is the Chairman of the Golden Moon Tea Company. Making Friends - First Impressions

April 16th, 2008 by leighamalta

By Sharon Jacobsen If you’ve ever been for a job interview or even on a first date, you’ve no doubt heard plenty of advice about first impressions and how much they matter. What about when you’re meeting potential friends for the first time? Keeping in mind that just about anybody, from a new neighbour to the lady behind at the check-out in the supermarket can be a potential friend, first impressions are equally as important when you’re just out and about, going about your daily life. When we first meet a new person our sub-conscious mind automatically starts computing a variety of signals from which we draw our conclusions. No doubt you’ve met people and immediately felt uncomfortable with them. But, if asked, you wouldn’t be able to say why you didn’t like that particular person there’s just something you can’t quite put your finger on. The same goes with those we immediately feel comfortable with. Our minds are simply sending us the answer to a complicated equation; an answer we don’t always fully understand. It’s important to remember that we’ve only between seven and seventeen seconds of interaction before the other person will form an opinion. Although later deeds may help them re-evaluate their stance, nothing will entirely eradicate the first feelings they had about you. When it comes to first impressions, second chances simply don’t exist. So how do we make a good first impression? The first rule, and this really is a golden rule, is to immediately give the ’spotlight’ to the other person. Everybody likes to feel that they’re the centre of attention and when making a good first impression, giving them the starring role is paramount to success. Just think of the times you’ve met somebody who talked about herself non-stop. How did you feel? Did you want to spend more time with her or did you avoid her like the plague? My guess is the latter. Whether or not the other person will make equally as a good a first impression on you will also depend on how they react to your giving them this central role. If they take it and keep running, they’ll no doubt become boring the ‘conversation baton’ should be handed back and forth, giving each part an equal opportunity to speak about themselves. Listen to what she says. It’s no use giving the other person the spotlight if you’re not going to listen to what she’s saying. Don’t interrupt but do make the right sounds and motions to show that you’re interested in what she’s saying. Short sentences like: “so what happened next?” or “and did you enjoy it?” are acceptable to lead the conversation forward but whatever you do, don’t say “funnily enough, I had a similar situation where…” and take the baton away from her by launching into your own story. By all means let her know you understand her through your own similar experience as this will give her a good opportunity to hand the central role back to you but let her choose the moment for the handover. To be a good listener it’s also important to maintain eye contact. Nobody enjoys talking to somebody who’s constantly looking around them as though waiting for somebody more interesting to come along. Give her your full attention. Avoid ‘foot in mouth’ syndrome. Humour is fine if you know how to use it but when making first impressions it’s probably best avoided unless you’re absolutely certain you won’t stray into personal territory. Obviously, the odd quip is acceptable but making ‘funny’ remarks about specific social groups and situations to somebody you don’t know may well prove to be hurtful. Regardless of how innocent the joke was, if you hurt the other person’s sensitivities you might just as well walk right away as any future relationship will be either out of the question or very strained indeed. Don’t correct the other person. Nobody wants to be friends with an argumentative person, do they? With that in mind, make sure the other person doesn’t wrongly judge you by biting your tongue even if somebody says something that’s totally against your own beliefs or that you know to be wrong. Some people find confrontations difficult to handle regardless of how long they’ve known a person - for those who’ve just met another person, it can and probably will be damning to any potential relationship that may have developed. Make yourself understood. Shy people have a tendency to mumble when they speak, as though what they have to say is unimportant and doesn’t need to be heard. If you’re talking to another person, for whatever reason, then obviously you have something to say that should be heard, even if it’s just “what’s the price of a loaf of bread?” or “I’m sorry, I’m late and must dash.” You won’t make a good first impression if the other person can’t understand you. Remember those seven to seventeen seconds? How many of them do you think you’ll have used just by having to repeat what you said? Mumbling is simply a waste of precious first impression time. Others will also form opinions of you based on the way you speak. Within those first crucial seconds they will have judged your level of intelligence, your cultural background, your level of education and more. Just think how you differently you’d judge a person who said “What? I didn’t hear you” to a person who said “I’m sorry, I didn’t quite catch what you said.” Which of the two you’d feel most comfortable with is irrelevant, the example is simply to identify the way we make our judgements. Using the above rules should help you feel more confident in social situations where you interact with new people. By developing these skills you’ll soon find that making friends will become easier and that you’ll at least be on “passing the time of day” terms with far more people than you ever were before. Employment and Career Opportunities in Automotive Sector

April 14th, 2008 by leighamalta

By Lance Winslow There is a huge shortage of automotive technicians in the automotive sector presently and it is growing. By 2007 it is expected to be 188,000 people short. Even with all the layoffs at General Motors, Delphi and Ford Motor Co. there is no way to fill the gap fast enough to fix the shortage. Meanwhile many of the technicians in the auto sector are being required to upgrade their certifications for working on OEM equipment. With a shortage of mechanics in the auto sector and an increase in the number of turcks, cars and boats being sold in the United States of America this poses a real dilemma. The auto sector is not the only place where there’s a shortage of jobs right now, also the trucking industry and in the aviation industry we have a shortage of air traffic controllers. It appears that the transportation sector has jobs for anybody who wants to work. However with unemployment numbers at 4.9 percent you can understand the problem.
